ASME N-Type Definition
ASME Nuclear Component (N-type) Certification is a company level certification of an organization's quality assurance program in accordance with Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) for components installed in nuclear facilities.
This certification is intended for companies who design, fabricate, and install components and supports used in nuclear power plants and facilities. ASME issues six different N-type certificates which authorizes the following scope of activities: N - Vessels, pumps, valves, piping system, and storage tanks, NA - Field installation and shop assembly of all items, NPT - Parts, appurtenances, welded tubular products, and piping subassemblies, NS ? Support, NV - Pressure relief valves, N3 - Transportation containments and storage containments, and OWN - Nuclear power plant owner.
Certification entails a review/survey of a company's quality manual and implementation of their quality program. The review/survey is performed by ASME consultants, an accredited authorized inspection agency, and a representative of the Enforcement Authority in Jurisdictions, where applicable.
