ANSI/MSE 50021:2013 is a company-level standard that outlines energy management requirements from the 2012 Superior Energy Performance (SEP) program that go beyond ISO 50001. It revises the ANSI/MSE 50021:2012 standard.

This standard is intended for companies that implement an energy management system that exceeds the performance requirements defined in ISO 50001. This standard recognizes three levels of achievement: silver, gold, or platinum.

Companies must meet the requirements of the ISO 50001 standard and demonstrate improved energy performance to become certified. Certifications are issued by third party certifying bodies. Audits are conducted regularly to ensure that the management system is continually improving.
